His sire, Artful Move, is a multiple World Champion and World Champion sire.

His dam, Joanne Woodward, is a 15.3 bay mare that was shown quite successfully in Ohio in Open Halter & Youth All Around, however, her best accomplishments have been as a broodmare. She has produced winners at the Tom Powers Futurity, the Congress and the World Show in both western and english.

As a two-year-old Artie was sent to Steve Heckaman to learn the basics and prepare him for his three-year-old debut.  Steve was so impressed with his quick learning and great disposition, he decided to try him at some of the futurities in Hunter Under Saddle.  With Steve's guidance and Trish Yamber riding, Artie was Co-Champion at the Tom Powers and Champion at the Southern Belle. He finished the year NSBA Reserve High Point 2-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle with just three times shown. As a 3-Year-Old, Steve recommended Nancy Sue Ryan take him. She immediately fell in love with him.  She wanted to only show him at a few select shows.  He was the Texas Classic Circuit Champion and Congress Reserve Champion Miller Hunter Under Saddle (tied for first, but lost under the tiebreaker) In 2001 Artie was pulled out of the field and put back into the show ring to begin his all-around career an Amateur and Senior horse.  Under the guidance of Rick and Heidi Cecil, Artie was campaigned for the next two years with his owner, Erin Shapiro, to add even more great accomplishments to his record!

 Little did they know he was the quietest guy ever!  I always used to ride him in the field with the mares and babies.  He knew when it was time to breed and when it was time to show."
